2017 Chrysler Pacifica vs 2016 Honda Odyssey

Serving Dublin, Columbus, Hilliard, Westerville, Marysville, OH

The 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is the new kid on the block. The 2016 Honda Odyssey represents a more traditional approach to minivans. Despite some similarities, the Pacifica works harder to pull out in front. In fact, the Pacifica was designed from the wheels up. While it shares the best traits of the outgoing Town and Country, it represents a complete reimagining of what a minivan can be for the family it serves. The model earned the Eyes On Design Award and a spot on the Wards Ten Best Interiors List.

Which Minivan Has More Room?

Both minivans have flexible seating for seven or eight. However, the Pacifica leads its class with a disappearing eighth seat that can be quickly restored to its place when you need it. A tilt-slide center seating system also makes it easier to access the backseat in the Pacifica. Furthermore, the Chrysler also leads its class with 197.3 cu.ft. in cargo volume. The available stow-n-go center seats fold away into the floor, leaving you with an absolutely flat hauling space in the Pacifica. Chrysler has determined there are 243 ways to configure the seats, letting you choose cargo or people as needed.

More Exclusive Features

Chrysler has squeezed 37 firsts into the standards and options list of the 2017 Pacifica. These features are either not offered on the Honda or are improved when compared to the Honda. For instance, the Pacifica has added a vacuum to its lineup, matching the Honda. However, the Chrysler Stow-n-Vac offers more power for better pick-up. While both offer an entertainment system, Chrysler offers UConnect Access for more apps and greater viewing opportunities for Pacifica kids. You can even get dual touchscreens. Chrysler is also the first to offer a hands-free capability on its sliding doors. It also added this capability to its power liftgate. The van's windows, sunroof, and sliding doors have an automatic-open sensor that seeks to protect small people from big mistakes. Furthermore, while both the Odyssey and the Pacifica have a forward collision warning, only the Pacifica has an auto-brake to help stop the van.

Performance and Fuel Economy

The Pacifica is the more streamlined of the two vehicles. Chrysler deliberately reworked every exterior aspect to create a more wind resistant body. This includes a lighter weight. This allows the minivan to do more with its horsepower than the Odyssey. Furthermore, the Pacifica enjoys a higher horsepower engine than its rival. While the Odyssey driver commands 248 horsepower, the Pacifica driver enjoys 287 horses under the hood. Adding to the Pacifica driver's capability, it earns 262 lb.-ft. of torque compared to 250 lb.-ft. in the Odyssey. Sweetening the deal, the Pacifica earns the same 28 mpg highway as the Odyssey. This is probably due to the Pacifica's nine-speed automatic transmission which uses three extra gears to achieve greater precision than the Odyssey's more traditional six-speed automatic. The Pacifica is also the first minivan to offer a hybrid edition for even greater fuel savings.
