Which off-roading machine is right for you? The answer is the Wrangler, but which one? The 2016 Jeep Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited have several trims and offer many reasons to buy. A test drive at Crown CDJR can tell you more, but maybe this guide will help you narrow your choices.
Size
The 2016 Jeep Wrangler continues tradition as a truly rugged, dependable off-roader that you can still take on dates to the city, with two doors and four seating positions. It is shorter than the Wrangler Unlimited, which gives it an advantage on the trail. The turning circle is smaller, and the amount of space it needs is obviously less as well. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, which was introduced in 2007, now accounts for about 60 percent of all Wrangler sales. It is a bigger vehicle with an extra 15 inches in length. It has four doors and five seats, making it a more typical sport utility vehicle. The backseat and the cargo hold are bigger because the vehicle is longer. Fold-down seats add to its ability to handle cargo. The Wrangler has 12.8 cubic feet that can be expanded to 56.5 cubic feet. The Wrangler Unlimited starts with 31.5 cubic feet and allows you to expand that to 70.6 cubic feet. Both allow you to remove the back seats completely. The choice truly comes down to your size needs. The Wrangler is better with a few friends while the Unlimited can handle more of a crowd.
Operating Costs
The smaller Wrangler naturally has a smaller price tag. In fact, it was named one of the ten coolest cars under $25,000 by Kelley Blue Book. It starts at around $22,995 MSRP while the larger Wrangler Unlimited starts at $26,795 MSRP. Since they share the same engine, they are both rated for the same fuel economy. Kelley Blue Book gave both models the 2015 5-Year-Cost-to-Own Award, indicating lower operating costs than their respective segments. Both vehicles also won Best Resale Value Awards from the respected auto review site. Since the eight editions offer a range of prices, it is worth a shopping trip to familiarize yourself with the pricing options.
Features
Both Wranglers come with a powerful 3.6-liter engine. It cranks out 285 horsepower and ample torque. There are two available four-wheel drive systems. The CommandTrac system is standard on six editions while the 4:1 RockTrac is standard on the Rubicon and Rubicon Hard Rock editions. A manual transmission is standard on all Wranglers and Wrangler Unlimited models, but a six-speed automatic is a favorite option. The two models offer high ground clearance, off-road tires, and low overhangs to make it easy to traverse trails and standing water. Roof choices include a traditional soft-top, a Sunrider soft-top, and a Freedom Top three-piece hard-top. These T-top style panels store easily in the cargo area. There are ten color choices plus a choice of half-metal or full metal doors. The carpet can be removed to reveal metal floors with drain plugs for easy clean-up.
Now that you know more, why not make a comparison of both models in person? You'll find the Jeep Wrangler and the Wrangler Unlimited at Crown CDJR Dublin.
